Nutrition labelling requirements in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Packaged food sold in Bosnia and Herzegovina must carry a nutrition declaration under Pravilnik o pružanju informacija potrošačima o hrani (Sl. glasnik BiH 68/13). This page covers the Bosnia and Herzegovina - Pravilnik 68/13 format: BiH transposition of EU 1169/2011, tri-lingual bs/hr/sr. A compliant Bosnian nutrition label declares 7 mandatory nutrients: energy, fat, of which saturates, carbohydrate, of which sugars, protein and salt. Values are declared per 100 g or 100 ml, with energy in both kJ and kcal, and salt rather than sodium. The panel is headed "Nutrition Declaration". Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian must both appear on pack. There is no mandatory front-of-pack warning scheme. NFL builds a print-ready Bosnian nutrition label from your recipe, applying the rounding rules and reference intakes for Bosnia and Herzegovina automatically, and exports it as PDF, PNG, SVG, JPG or EPS.

Key facts
Bosnia and Herzegovina food labelling requirements
Bosnia and Herzegovina's food information rules are in the Rulebook on the provision of food information to consumers (Pravilnik o pružanju informacija potrošačima o hrani), published in Službeni glasnik BiH No. 68/13 and in force. It applies at state level to food business operators whose activities involve giving food information to consumers, including food supplied to and by catering establishments.
For prepacked food, the following are mandatory where they apply:
- name of the food, ingredients, and allergens or substances causing intolerances;
- quantity of certain ingredients and net quantity;
- minimum durability or use-by date and any special storage or use conditions;
- name and address of the responsible food business operator;
- origin where the rulebook requires it, and instructions for use where needed;
- alcoholic strength for relevant drinks; and
- the nutrition declaration.
The information must appear on the package or on a label attached to it, and must be easily visible, clear, legible and, where appropriate, indelible.

Bosnia nutrition declaration requirements
A nutrition declaration is mandatory under the rulebook, subject to its scope and exemptions. It shows energy and the amounts of fat, saturated fatty acids, carbohydrate, sugars, protein and salt.
The values are presented together in a clear format, as a table with aligned numbers where space permits, or in a linear format where it does not. The mandatory nutrition declaration applied after a transitional period set in the rulebook.
The Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina states that the rulebook is aligned with EU Regulation 1169/2011, so the content of the declaration matches the EU format. It is a national instrument, however, and EU law does not apply directly.

Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian food label languages
Bosnia and Herzegovina has three official languages and two scripts, which makes its labels different from those in neighbouring countries. The Food Safety Agency's implementation guidance says mandatory information must be in a language consumers easily understand, and identifies Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian, in Latin or Cyrillic script, with multilingual labelling recognised.
Local-language information is therefore mandatory in practice for food sold to consumers, while a combined multilingual label is permitted. For certain prescribed descriptions, such as formed meat and formed fish products, the rulebook itself gives the wording in Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian.

Bosnia imported food labelling and enforcement
Imported prepacked food is subject to the same mandatory rules as domestic food. Because the rulebook allows mandatory information on a label attached to the package, an importer may add a local-language supplementary label instead of reprinting the pack, provided the result is clearly visible, legible and not obscured.
The Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, established under the Law on Food (Zakon o hrani, Službeni glasnik BiH 50/04), prepares and coordinates food legislation with the competent authorities of the two entities and Brčko District. Official controls and enforcement are carried out by the inspection authorities within that system, so labels are checked by entity and district inspectorates rather than by the Agency alone.
