Nutrition labelling requirements in the DRC
Packaged food sold in the DRC must carry a nutrition declaration under OCC - Étiquetage des denrées alimentaires préemballées (Codex-aligné). This page covers the DRC - OCC (Codex) format: French per Office Congolais de Contrôle. A compliant Congolese nutrition label declares 7 mandatory nutrients: énergie, protéines, matières grasses, dont saturées, glucides, dont sucres and sodium. Values are declared per 100 g or 100 ml and per serving, both columns required, with energy in both kJ and kcal, and sodium rather than salt. The panel is headed "Information nutritionnelle". French is required on pack. There is no mandatory front-of-pack warning scheme. NFL builds a print-ready Congolese nutrition label from your recipe, applying the rounding rules and reference intakes for the DRC automatically, and exports it as PDF, PNG, SVG, JPG or EPS.

Key facts
DR Congo food labelling requirements under OCC and the national Codex standard
The Democratic Republic of the Congo turned Codex food standards into national law. Arrêté ministériel n° 004 of 1 April 2008 adopted 94 Codex Alimentarius standards as Congolese national standards and applied them to local and imported products. Among them is NCD CODEX STAN 1, General standard for the labelling of prepackaged foods, which the Ministry of External Trade lists as an adopted national standard and which is mandatory.
Under NCD CODEX STAN 1, these are mandatory where they apply:
- name of the food and ingredient list;
- net contents;
- name and address of the manufacturer, packer, distributor, importer, exporter or vendor;
- country of origin where omission could mislead;
- lot identification and date marking; and
- storage or use instructions where needed.
Labels must not be false, misleading or deceptive.

DR Congo food label language requirements
French is mandatory on prepackaged products for the Congolese market. The Office Congolais de Contrôle (OCC) has stated that consumer information must appear in French in an understandable form, not only in codes consumers cannot read.
This is more specific than the Codex rule, which only asks for a language acceptable in the country of sale. If an imported pack lacks French, a supplementary French label is needed in practice, and it must accurately reflect the original and be clear and legible.

DR Congo imported food labelling and OCC controls
Congolese standards apply to imported food as well as local food. For imported prepackaged food, OCC lists production and expiry information, provenance, production code, quantity, lot and manufacturer name as mandatory, all in French, alongside the NCD CODEX STAN 1 particulars.
OCC controls the quality and conformity of goods entering and leaving the country, which is mandatory. Its labelling notice warns that non-compliant goods may be refused entry or destroyed.

DR Congo nutrition label requirements
Official Congolese sources do not confirm a general mandatory nutrition panel on every prepackaged food. NCD CODEX STAN 1 covers general labelling, and no separate Congolese rule requiring a nutrition declaration on all foods was found.
Where a nutrition or health claim is made, or a product standard requires it, a Codex-style declaration applies: energy, protein, available carbohydrate, fat, saturated fat, sodium and total sugars, plus any claimed nutrient.
