Nutrition labelling requirements in Myanmar
Packaged food sold in Myanmar must carry a nutrition declaration under National Food Law (1997, am. 2013) - Myanmar FDA / Codex-aligned. Myanmar food labelling requirements under the National Food Law
Myanmar's food labels are governed by the National Food Law (Law No. 5/97) and the Myanmar Food and Drug Board of Authority's Directive for Labelling of Pre-packaged Foods, Directive 8/2022, both in force. The Directive covers prepackaged food that is made, imported, exported, stored, sold, displayed or promoted in Myanmar.
The National Food Law prohibits food whose label claims properties it does not have, or omits information the authorities require. The Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Ministry of Health administers food control.

Mandatory information on a Myanmar food label
Directive 8/2022 makes these mandatory, subject to any Myanmar Standard or Codex rule for the food:
- name of the food, showing its true nature;
- list of ingredients;
- net content, quantity and drained weight where applicable;
- name and address;
- country of origin;
- lot identification;
- date marking, with exemptions in the FDA annex; and
- instructions for use where required.
The name and net weight must appear clearly on the front of the pack. Irradiated food needs a written statement near the name; the international symbol is voluntary.

Myanmar food label language requirements and imported foods
Myanmar's language rule is flexible. Mandatory information may be in Myanmar language or in another language the intended consumer can read and understand, and more than one language may be used.
Imported foods are expressly covered by Directive 8/2022. However, FDA Directive 5/2026, effective from March 2026, prohibits using stickers to add essential product descriptions to imported food labels, so importers should not rely on stickers to fix essential information and should get compliant artwork printed on the pack.

Myanmar nutrition label requirements
A nutrition panel is not required on every prepackaged food. Under Directive 8/2022, nutrition facts are mandatory when vitamins or minerals are added, or when a nutrient has been reduced or removed.
When required, the declaration follows the applicable Myanmar Standard or Codex nutrition guidance. The FDA's import e-submission system records values such as energy, carbohydrate, sugars, fibre, protein, fat, cholesterol and sodium where they appear on the label. Claims must not mislead about nutritional properties or composition.
